Windshelters are an important part of A Valley Without Wind. When a windshelter is built, it stops windstorms in nearby regions. Windshelter sites are also a great place to find lone NPCs that you can migrate into an existing settlement (they can only be migrated to a settlement by a NPC in a settlement, not by yourself). If you visit a windshelter site, you can construct a windshelter there and doing so gives you some experience points. You can also order NPCs to build windshelters but by doing so, you do not gain the experince you would get if you built it yourself. On the other hand, you can use NPCs to build windshelters in regions far above your own level without having to risk going there yourself. If you enter a region with a windshelter on it, you enter the region at that windshelter. You can also exit to the world map through a windshelter.
