This page is up to date for game version 5.033 and should still be correct.

Most military ships get an Attack Multiplier against 3 or 4 Hull Types. Ships that get no hull bonuses tend to have higher base damage.
In-game when looking at the ship description pop-up, the Attack Multipliers are near the middle in green text.

Because Attack Multipliers are on a per ship basis, see a ship's detail page for its Attack Multipliers.

Attack Multipliers are applied before Armor in the Damage Calculation.
