This golem is sent from deep space for one purpose: to consume the planet it is heading toward. It will fire on human ships that approach it, but it emits a signal that tricks AI ships into ignoring it as harmless. It takes it quite a while to reach the planet, but as soon as it does, it causes a blast the same as if a nuclear weapon had been set off -- destroying all the resources and making the planet unable to sustain supply. It doesn't harm the ships on the planet, however, so it won't cause an AI Progress increase if it goes off on an AI Planet. Unlike other golems, the Mining Golem has not broken down and still roams the galaxy for the perfect system to target. As such it is not available to human or AI forces in any form as it is normally out of range in deep space. The Mining Golem qualifies as a minor faction on its own and is enabled/disabled via the Zenith Miners option under Game Options during game setup. |

How to counter
Relatively easy to counter as long as you can get to them in time.
Note that the Mining Golem is not slowed when outside the gravity well of the planet and so is faster then your units outside this limit.
(The larger of the two dashed circles surrounding a system when zoomed out is the gravity well limit.)
The Mining Golem does not explode until it reaches the center of the system, so even a moderately sized fleet will have plenty of time to destroy it if they engage it as it crosses the edge of the gravity well.
