This page is up to date for game version 6.013 and is probably outdated. |
This golem is sent from deep space for one purpose: to consume the planet it is heading toward. It will fire on human ships that approach it, but it emits a signal that tricks AI ships into ignoring it as harmless. It takes it quite a while to reach the planet, but as soon as it does, it causes a blast the same as if a nuclear weapon had been set off -- destroying all the resources and making the planet unable to sustain supply. It doesn't harm the ships on the planet, however, so it won't cause an AI Progress increase if it goes off on an AI Planet. Unlike other golems, the Mining Golem has not broken down and still roams the galaxy for the perfect system to target. As such it is not available to human or AI forces in any form as it is normally out of range in deep space. The Mining Golem qualifies as a minor faction on its own and is enabled/disabled via the Zenith Miners option under Game Options during game setup. |

How to counter
Relatively easy to counter as long as you can get to them in time.
They spawn along the outer edge of the gravity well of the system they target and stay stationary while the countdown is in progress.
Note that while the Mining Golem is lightly armed by Golem standards, it is still a Golem and will require a significant fleet presence to take down, especially in the early/mid game.
As long as the Mining Golem is destroyed before the countdown finished, there is no further effect.
However, if the Mining Golem survives long enough for the countdown to reach zero, it explodes rendering the system permanently out of supply although no units in the system are harmed.
This lack of supply effect applies to both player and AI units.
Note that the description for this minor faction is incorrect in the lobby as it says supply is not affected when in fact the Mining Golem exploding does removed supply from a system permanently.
