Carrier
Contains hordes of AI units, when there are too many to conveniently travel independently.

The ships inside cannot fire upon targets outside, but the carrier uses their power for its own guns and gains more shots per salvo the more ships it contains. A fully loaded carrier can do a lot of damage.

When fired upon, the carrier's internal ships absorb the damage in its stead. When the last ship is destroyed in this manner (or is simply deployed naturally), the carrier is destroyed.

Damage is shown for a single shot when no units are inside the Carrier.

How to use in your fleet

This unit is usable by the AI only.

How to counter when in the AI fleet

Carriers have seen a number of revisions over the years.

The name of Carrier is perhaps misleading. This unit acts as a "combination" unit thanks to the scaling number of shots based on the units it carries. This is intended to reduce the load on your computers CPU by reducing the number of units involved in combat while not actually(significantly) reducing the firepower the AI is bringing to bear against you.

In their current state, carriers are no longer immune to forcefields, nor do they spawn a large number of vessels when killed, and their range has been increased twofold. This allows them to fulfill their role of dropping CPU pressure without acting as an anti-force field shuttle for invading exo-waves.

In some ways, a single carrier can be significantly easier to handle than a combination of other ships. The ultra-heavy hull type makes these extremely vulerable to Assault Craft, though a fully loaded carrier can deal large amounts of damage to unprepared fleets.
