This one-way wormhole leads to somewhere outside the galaxy. A mysterious force prevents your ships from going through. This wormhole cannot be destroyed, and it will continue to letting enemy ships in the galaxy until you finish off both AIs and win the war. There is one of these wormholes in each of the AIs Homeworlds. If there is also one of these wormholes in your starting system, you are fighting a Backdoor Hacker AI Type. |
How to counter
Before, the Exo-Galactic Wormhole had no way to be countered. Even if the AI Home Command Stations were destroyed, they will still throw enemy forces at you. The later expansions of the game, Vengeance of the Machine and Destroyer of Worlds added at least 3 ways to get rid of at least one of them.
Vengeance of the Machine added the Showdown Devices, mysterious Dark Spire devices that can close the wormhole permanently if the Humans capture them all and protect them long enough. Destroyer of Worlds added two more ways to get rid of them.
1) The Nomad Beacon can completely destroy an AI Homeworld, wormholes included if it's placed on the planet's orbit long enough for Nomad 1 to ram it. Careful that if things don't go right, the HCS will reflect the blast into the entire Murdoch Quadrant, destroying everything with the strength of a Mk III Nuclear Warhead, with all the consequences it implies.
2) The Exodian Blade will destroy the AI's leader, its brother, The Core if it can reach the Exo Galactic Homeworld without being destroyed. The explosion will also completely destroy both AI Homeworlds, winning the game.
