How to use in your fleet
Sentinel Frigates provide a number of utility functions to the player fleet: sniping, armour penetration, limited tachyon detection, and Insta-kill immunity. While none of these are essential, life is made easier with the addition of these frigates. Their strong DPS and infinite range provides a much safer alternative to gate-raiding and strategic elimination, while taking a few caps in a cloaked Transport (to set up a distraction in an isolated corner) is a handy way to start an offensive operation. The leisurely bullet travel-time (whereas Snipers are instant-fire) may annoy the more impetuous players, however.
A little-used ability is the advanced warp detection, meaning that one can replace Advanced Warp sensors with lone sentinel frigates, especially when patrolling neutral systems or sussing out the exact wormhole used by a Raid Engine attack.
How to counter when in the AI fleet
Like Snipers and Spire Blade Spawners, an enemy Sentinel Frigate should always be marked for destruction by ships that can catch them. Apparently there is a bug about countering these with certain counter-sniper units: Mantis 0011987: Scout Starship does not block Sniper Shots.
