This page is up to date for game version 6.013 and is probably outdated. |
This golem is sent from deep space for one purpose: to consume the planet it is heading toward.
It will fire on human ships that approach it, but it emits a signal that tricks AI ships into ignoring it as harmless. It takes it quite a while to reach the planet, but as soon as it does, it causes a blast the same as if a nuclear weapon had been set off -- destroying all the resources and making the planet unable to sustain supply. It doesn't harm the ships on the planet, however, so it won't cause an AI Progress increase if it goes off on an AI Planet. |
The Mining Golem is part of the Zenith Miners Minor Faction, which can be enabled during game setup. This Minor Faction adds a periodic event triggered every four hours or so. When triggered, several Mining Golems will spawn on different planets around the frontier between AI and human territories (these planets may be AI or player controlled). The difficulty of the Minor Faction influence the quantity of spawned golems. The golems are spawned along the outer edge of the gravity well of the system they target and stay stationary while a 30 minutes countdown progresses. When that countdown reaches zero, each mining golem still alive will mine the entire planet it is on. A planet mined by a golem looses Energy and [AI War:Metal|]] productions, Supply and any remaining Knowledge. (It is worth noting that the lack of supply also affect the AI.) As long as the Mining Golem is destroyed before the countdown finished, there is no further effect.
Unlike other golems, the Mining Golem has not broken down and still roams the galaxy for the perfect system to target. As such it is not available to human or AI forces in any form.
As AI will not target them, players must venture in targeted AI planets if they value the resources there. Players' allies (including friendly Neinzul Roaming Enclaves) will react to kill them.

How to counter
Mining Golems are relatively easy to counter as long as you can get to them in time. They are are immobile, heavily armored, and have good firepower over a long range. However their rate of fire is low (limited to massive damage to a single ship). Strong counters include anything with radar dampening or sufficient numbers. The "Ultra-Heavy" hull type, found on all golems, makes them particularly vulnerable to Bombers. Space Planes, with both radar dampening and a bonus against Ultra-Heavy hulls, are an ideal counter. Due to their high cap-DPS and low cost, Laser Gatlings also make an excellent counter.
